Deli owner, 85, injured as robbers strike again

An elderly store owner who has stood up to knives and guns was hit by a bag of charcoal Monday, when he was robbed for at least the seventh time in approximately 18 months, according to Buffalo police.
The 85-year-old owner of Kaminski's Deli, 1315 Broadway, told Ferry-Fillmore District officers that two men came into his store Monday afternoon, ostensibly to buy a bag of charcoal.
But the bag was thrown at him, followed by a struggle with one of the robbers who knocked him to the floor. Meanwhile, the second man grabbed several packs of cigarettes.
The robbers also grabbed a knife from within the store and threatened to use it, officers were told. They were scared off when another shopper entered the store. An ambulance crew treated the owner, who suffered bruises.
Intruders handcuff couple, make off with $900

A man and woman were handcuffed over the weekend by intruders with assault rifles who took $900 and fled.
Two men climbed up on a rear porch roof of the man's apartment on Newburgh Avenue, near Genesee Street, and broke in at 4:30 a.m. Saturday. The man and his woman visitor were handcuffed while the intruders went through the entire apartment, taking electronic equipment and cash.
Northeast District officers said the two men then removed the handcuffs and bound the couple with duct tape before fleeing.
Man wounded in knee by drive-by shooter

A 20-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the right knee early Monday at the intersection of May and Genesee streets, authorities said.
Maurice L. Peoples, of the 200 block of Best Street, said a passenger inside a red Oldsmobile pulled up beside him and fired several shots at him, hitting him once, at about 3 a.m., according to Ferry-Fillmore District police.
An investigation into the attack is continuing. Peoples was treated in Erie County Medical Center and later released.
One victim of stabbing dies of wounds in ECMC

One of the victims of a double stabbing in Buffalo's Black Rock section died Wednesday night.
Aaron Stanbo, 19, of Dearborn Street, died shortly before 8 p.m. in Erie County Medical Center. He had suffered wounds to the back and stomach, according to Northwest District police reports.
Stanbo and Daryl Nance, also 19 and of Dearborn Street, were stabbed at about 2 a.m. Wednesday when an argument on Bridgeman Street turned violent. Police are looking to question a potential suspect, who remains at large.
Nance, who was wounded in the chest, made it to a friend's house several blocks away before he collapsed.
He was treated in the medical center and released.
The Buffalo News loves to print description of the cars used in violent crime.
I think owners of red Oldmobiles should demand an end to this type profiling.
That's one.
It will increase in a big way, the first time our taxes were raised too high, cigarettes were all thieves wanted to steal.
